When a resource refuses to start, the console almost always tells you why. The trick is reading it in the right order. This guide goes from the most common cause to the least, so you can stop as soon as the problem is fixed.
1. Read the first error, not the last
Scroll up in the txAdmin live console to the first red line that mentions your resource. Later errors are usually consequences of that first one. Also press F8 in game to see client-side errors, which never appear in the server console.
2. The resource cannot be found
Messages like Could not find resource or No such resource mean FiveM cannot see the folder. Check these in order:
- The folder name in
server.cfgmatches the real folder name exactly, including capitals. fxmanifest.luasits directly inside the resource folder, not inside a second folder.- You ran
refreshafter copying new files in, so the server rescans the resources folder.
3. The manifest is invalid
If the console complains about fxmanifest.lua, a file listed in it is missing or the file has a syntax error. Compare the manifest with the files on disk. A file path that is correct on one machine can break on another when the capitalisation differs.
4. Wrong start order or missing dependency
Errors such as No such export or attempt to index a nil value right at start usually mean something the script depends on is not running yet. Dependencies and your framework must be ensured before the script:
ensure oxmysql
ensure ox_lib
ensure qb-core # or es_extended / qbx_core
ensure my-scriptRead the script's requirements again and confirm each dependency is installed and started. See how to install a FiveM script for the full flow.
5. Database errors
- The
.sqlfile was never imported, so a table or column is missing. - The connection string is wrong or the database is unreachable. See the oxmysql setup guide.
- Two resources try to create the same table name.
6. Escrow or license errors
Protected paid assets only run on a server whose license key belongs to the Cfx.re account that owns the asset. If a protected resource fails with a license message, confirm the key in your server.cfg belongs to the same account you bought with. More detail in Cfx.re Asset Escrow explained.
7. It starts but does nothing
- Check the config: framework setting, job names, permissions and required items.
- Test with a normal player, not only an admin, because permissions often hide features.
- Confirm items exist in your inventory configuration if the script uses them.
- Look for a conflicting resource that uses the same key bind or command name.
Buying a script? Every product in the ALN DEV catalogue lists its supported frameworks and dependencies up front, so most of these problems never happen.
